US Supreme Court Rules that a Child's Age Properly Informs Miranda's Custody Analysis

Last Thursday, the United States Supreme Court issued their opinion in the case of J. D. B. v. North Carolina, No. 09–11121, holding that a child’s age properly informs Miranda’s custody analysis, reversing the decision of the North Carolina Supreme Court and remanding for further proceedings.  Justice Sotomayor delivered the opinion of the Court (5-4) in which Justices Kennedy, Ginsburg, Breyer and Kagan joined.
