House Bill on Children's Code Rewrite Introduced
As of April 12, 2011, the Child Protection and Public Safety Act – a significant rewrite of Georgia’s frequently amended but still inarguably outdated 40-year-old Juvenile Code – is active in both Chambers of the General Assembly and, with pledged support from the Governor and Speaker of the House, readies for a vote in 2012. The introduction of the bill (HB 641) by House Judiciary Chairman Wendell Willard (R-Sandy Springs) follows a momentous few months which has included 11 public hearings and numerous stakeholder meetings. Senate Judiciary Chairman Bill Hamrick (R-Carrollton) introduced a similar bill in the Senate in 2009.
