Juvenile Code Rewrite Bill Unanimously Passed Out of Senate Judiciary
- On last Thursday afternoon, February 15, 2012, the Juvenile Code rewrite bill was unanimously passed out of the Senate Judiciary! We are beyond thrilled at this development given all of the extraordinary work that has been put into this effort by our partners . If you are able, please take a moment to thank the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill will next head to the Senate Rules committee, the last stop before a floor vote in the Senate. While there are more steps ahead of us, getting the bill out of the Senate Judiciary was indeed a critical step.

House Bill on Children's Code Rewrite Introduced
- As of April 12, 2011, the Child Protection and Public Safety Act – a significant rewrite of Georgia’s frequently amended but still inarguably outdated 40-year-old Juvenile Code – is active in both Chambers of the General Assembly and, with pledged support from the Governor and Speaker of the House, readies for a vote in 2012. The introduction of the bill (HB 641) by House Judiciary Chairman Wendell Willard (R-Sandy Springs) follows a momentous few months which has included 11 public hearings and numerous stakeholder meetings. Senate Judiciary Chairman Bill Hamrick (R-Carrollton) introduced a similar bill in the Senate in 2009.
